Author’s Diary for March 10, 2020: Bids Appendix (Part 2)

Tired tonight. Just gonna dump what I wrote here for the bids appendix. Click through for more.

  • Athletics: Using the character’s strength, physical endurance, or skill with sports
    • Climb: Climb up, down, or along a surface, rapidly rappel down
      • To Accomplish: Fixed bid, set by FM. Long climbs (i.e., up a mountain or cliff) may require more than one Athletics bid.
      • If Successful: The character climbs the surface to xir target without incident.
      • If Unsuccessful: 
        • The character falls off during xir climb and takes falling damage.
        • The character gets stuck halfway up. Xi must make another Athletics bid to progress or climb back down
      • Suggested Traits: Athletics, Agility, Escaping, Movement
      • Suggested Advantages: 
        • The character has appropriate climbing gear.
        • The character has more than two hands and feet.
        • The character has claws.
        • The character’s body is designed for climbing (i.e., a squirrel).
      • Suggested Disadvantages: 
        • The character is climbing a slippery surface.
        • The character’s body is not designed for climbing (i.e., an elephant).
        • The character has injured or lost the use of xir legs.
        • The character has injured or lost the use of xir arms or hands.
        • The character is overburdened with gear.
    • Swim: Swim on or under the surface of any liquid, stay afloat in any liquid
      • To Accomplish::Fixed bid, set by FM. Long swims may require more than one Athletics bid.
      • If Successful:
        • The character swims to xir target without incident.
        • The character treads water and keeps xir head above the surface.
      • If Unsuccessful:
        • The character stops about halfway to xir target and begins to drown.
        • The character is swept away by a current about halfway to xir target.
      • Suggested Traits: Athletics, Agility, Escaping, Movement, Riding (if mounted)
      • Suggested Advantages:
        • The character has wings or fins.
        • The character has equipment for swimming or floating (i.e., swimming fins, a life jacket, etc.).
        • The character can breathe underwater or has equipment to breathe underwater.
        • The character’s body is designed for swimming (i.e., a fish, an eel).
        • The character is swimming in salt water or any other dense or buoyant liquid.
        • The liquid and/or weather are calm.
      • Suggested Disadvantages:
        • The character’s body isn’t designed for swimming.
        • The character’s body is not designed for swimming.
        • The liquid is very thin, light, or otherwise hard to float in.
        • The liquid is very hot, very cold, or caustic.
        • The liquid and/or weather are stormy.
        • The liquid has a strong current.
        • The character has injured or lost the use of xir legs.
        • The character has injured or lost the use of xir arms or hands.
        • The character is overburdened with gear or wearing armor.
